We are what society is.
Our education system claims to be based on standard Brittish english..
But in actual fact all my assignments in secondary school and poly were done in american english.
Thanks to the power of Bill Gates and his Microsoft empire..
My creative writing teacher brought this to our attention,
while were were having a discussion about pronounciation in class last week.
Then I realized that my english has been SO influenced by watching Friends,
and alot of my vocab parrot the lips of the characters in the show.
My teacher told us that television makes the attention spans of children shorter,
as the frames move at an alarming speed.
So our expectation of rate of occurance for change is really high.
That's why lesser people read, and find reading boring.
Sometimes I see in friendster profiles, "I don't read nerdy books",
or something along those lines in the favourite books section,
and I feel.. Weird. Like sort of sorry for them for they are missing out,
and a little angry at them for underating publishing haha..
Okok.. I'm prissy like that, sometimes.
Anyways.. We always called Americans "open-minded," right?
Like the general dating attitude there is, well, dating.
Like touch and go touch and go, until the right person comes along.
But with us singaporeans, committment has been instilled into us
as a requirement for relationships.
EVERYONE claims to want committment.
But I look arnd at my friends, peers, and myself, and realize that
the number of people who are truly ready to commit are only a handful.
Others say they want it, but aren't up to it.
Unconditional love. Needs some conditioning, self or by life, before you can actually achieve it.
